Cold-Chain and Refrigeration Monitoring

Summary

Citritek provide calibrated real time continuous monitoring devices that link back to our online portal giving assurance of product efficacy or risk of perishable spoilage including the provision of alarms and alerts of out of specification events.

Problem

Manual fridge checks are one of those tasks that everybody knows is important but nobody enjoys. Twice-daily temperature logs are time-consuming, easy to miss, and only capture a snapshot. If a fridge fails overnight or over a weekend, the first anyone knows about it is when they arrive on Monday to find spoiled stock and a compliance gap in the records. For vaccine storage, the consequences can be serious: lost doses, wasted budget, and potential patient safety concerns. For food storage in commercial kitchens, the risks are HACCP non-compliance, stock losses, and reputational damage.

Solution

Citritek deploys wireless temperature sensors inside pharmaceutical fridges, freezers, food storage units, and cold rooms. These sensors transmit readings to the platform at regular intervals, with immediate alerting if temperatures move outside the required range. The system maintains a continuous, tamper-proof log that replaces manual checks and provides far more granular data for audit purposes.

The Network Advantage

For many of our clients, cold-chain monitoring is not a standalone project. It is a natural extension of the LoRaWAN sensor network we have already installed on their site for water safety monitoring. The gateways are already in place, the platform is already configured, and the estates team is already using our dashboards. Adding fridge monitoring is a matter of deploying additional sensors onto an existing infrastructure, not commissioning an entirely new system. This means lower cost, faster deployment, and a single platform for all environmental monitoring data.

We have clients in financial services and professional services where the original deployment was Legionella monitoring, and the estates team has since expanded the network to cover on-site restaurant and catering refrigeration. We also monitor vaccine fridges for NHS clients, where the same platform that manages their water safety compliance now also manages their cold-chain records.

Key Features

Continuous
logging

Temperature recorded at regular intervals, 24/7, including out of hours and weekends.

Instant
excursion alerts

Notifications by email or SMS when temperatures breach thresholds.

Audit-ready
records

Exportable logs that satisfy CQC, MHRA, NHS pharmacy, and HACCP audit requirements.

Multi-site
visibility

Monitor storage across multiple locations from a single dashboard.

Leverage
existing infrastructure

If you already have a Citritek LoRaWAN network on site, adding cold-chain monitoring requires no new gateways or platform setup.

Unified
estates monitoring

Water safety, air quality, and cold-chain data all in one platform, one login, one reporting structure.
